Harry Gray has ended his Rotherham loan at the League One season’s close and posted a brief Instagram farewell, with a Leeds United return beckoning.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 17-year-old joined in January on a half-season deal to gain senior EFL minutes as Leeds battled Premier League survival. He started 20 League One games and scored three.

Rotherham were relegated to League Two last month, yet Gray impressed. He recorded an assist in Saturday’s final-weekend 3-2 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers.

He struck twice in his first four appearances. A March hamstring strain took him back to Thorp Arch, sidelining him for around three weeks before an early-April return.

Head coach Matt Hamshaw, who signed him, had been sacked by then, but Gray continued under Lee Clark. He scored in a 2-0 win over Leyton Orient, though it proved only a brief reprieve.

He stayed close to boyhood club Leeds, seen in the away end at Old Trafford for a 2-1 win in April and at Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea. He now returns to West Yorkshire for talks, and with Leeds all but securing another Premier League season after Friday’s 3-1 win over Burnley, another loan could help maintain regular minutes.
