Harry Kane struck twice as Bayern Munich dismantled Atalanta to march into the Champions League quarter-finals, and in doing so, the England captain reached a remarkable milestone: 50 goals in Europe’s premier club competition.

The Bayern No.9 hit the landmark in just his 66th Champions League appearance, equalling Lionel Messi’s tally of games to reach the half-century. Only Erling Haaland and Ruud van Nistelrooy have reached 50 faster, with Haaland achieving it in a staggering 49 matches and Nistelrooy in 62.

In the process of chasing his first European Cup, Kane has moved past legends such as Andriy Shevchenko, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alfredo Di Stefano, climbing into the top 10 of the all-time Champions League scorers alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry.

Salah, meanwhile, also reached the 50-goal mark during Liverpool’s demolition of Galatasaray, though it took the Egyptian 97 games to get there. Crucially, Salah is the first African to hit 50 Champions League goals, with Didier Drogba second on 44.

The quarter-finals promise blockbuster ties, with Kane’s Bayern set to meet Real Madrid, while Salah’s Liverpool take on Paris Saint-Germain in what should be another thrilling chapter of European football.
