Harry Kane has responded to criticism of his move to Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur.
Former England forward Michael Owen said last week that Kane was ‘nuts’ to leave the Premier League for Germany in 2023.
In an interview with Rio Ferdinand, Owen said the achievement of becoming the Premier League’s record scorer would outweigh a Bundesliga title success at Bayern.
Kane was 47 goals behind Alan Shearer’s goal landmark at the time of his move to Bayern in 2023, but chose to leave Spurs after failing to win a major trophy in his career at that time.
Since moving to the Allianz Arena, Kane has scored 91 goals in 100 games, winning the 2024/25 Bundesliga, two Bundesliga top scorer awards and a European Golden Shoe.
On Owen’s comments, Kane told BBC Radio 5 live: “I touched on this earlier. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, I’ve got nothing but respect for Michael. I don’t know him that well, I’ve met him a couple of times, and he’s been great.
“He had a fantastic career, both club and for England as well. I think he’ll know more than anyone, everyone’s career is different, everyone has decisions to make, at different times. And you do what’s best for you. What you think is the most important thing.
“At that period in time, it was to improve, get better, and who is going to be challenging in the Champions League and league. Ultimately that’s what I’ve done, I’ve loved every second of my time at Bayern and I feel it’s progressed me on as a player.
“I’m really happy there. I’m sure he didn’t mean it in the way it’s gone out there in the media but, of course, he’s entitled to his opinion. I know I make decisions for myself and it was definitely the right one.”
