Newly appointed Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has spoken on a possible return of Harry Kane to the north London outfit. Might it prove that case that the 32-year-old – having captured his long-desired championship trophy in the Bundesliga – will return to his old academy side to finish out his career? Frank remained ambivalent about the prospect of Kane leaving Bayern Munich.

There are many Tottenham fans, myself included, who would love to have Kane back,” Frank – as quoted by transfermarkt.de – remarked at a recent Spurs press event. “But, to be honest, I don’t think he’ll do that now. He’ll likely remain at Bayern and continue to play well. He was [the Bundesliga’s] top-scorer last year, won the title, and is in fantastic form.

I’m a traveler myself,” the Danish head coach continued. “And I like to discover new things. He’s already been here for many years, so why not enjoy his time a little bit longer?

The prospect of Kane returning home to finish out his career remains something that, contractually at least, is a real possibility. Kane’s current Bayern contract – the same one signed by the Englishman upon joining the club in August 2023 – only runs until the end of next season. Kane is slated for free-agency at the end of the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign.

In February, Sport Bild (as relayed by transfermarkt) revealed that an exit clauses built into Kane’s contract accord the England national team captain a way out of Bayern in both the January 2025 and January 2026 transfer windows. In 2025, Bayern would have been entitled to €80m if Kane decided to leave. In the coming transfer window, that amount is only €65m.

The fact that Kane is currently valued at €75m means that there will surely be Premier League sides interested in making a relatively cheap swoop for Kane in just a little over two months’ time. Just like in January 2025, any club taking advantage of the exit clause will only be entitled to Kane’s services after the current season ends.

It is such that Bayern themselves might be amenable to a decent offer. After the current season concludes, Kane will officially enter the final year of his contract this coming season. Neither Kane nor his Bundesliga club will be keen on the notion of negotiating a transfer during the summer 2026 World Cup.

All parties involved could avoid a major distraction and serious headache by clarifying Kane’s future in January. Obviously, another way to accomplish this would be for Kane to extend his Bayern deal by an additional year.
