Harry Maguire could miss more than one match for Manchester United after being charged with improper conduct by the FA, with his automatic suspension set to rule him out against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday, 13 April.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the centre-back was sent off in the 78th minute of the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth for pulling down Evanilson in the area, with referee Stuart Attwell judging it a clear denial of a goalscoring opportunity.

The FA has charged Maguire over alleged abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal, and has given him until Thursday 2 April to respond. The charge could bring an extension to his ban.

Even if he appeals the charge, Maguire is still expected to miss the Premier League meeting with Leeds. He would only feature if the red card were rescinded, which currently appears unlikely.

United manager Michael Carrick criticised the decision, highlighting comparable incidents involving Matheus Cunha and Amad Diallo, with one penalised and the other not, and arguing that both were effectively the same offence.

United have no fixture this weekend due to their FA Cup exit to Brighton in January, while Leeds travel to West Ham for their quarter-final on Sunday.
