Leeds United have identified Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney as a summer priority, with the midfielder valued at about £30m. TeamTalk reports that Leeds believe they can meet Middlesbrough’s demands.
Tottenham and Manchester United have also shown interest. Leeds have him marked as a priority if they stay up, seeing Hackney as key to bolstering midfield.
Hackney is contracted with Boro until 2027. He has four goals and six assists in 31 appearances, form that has fuelled Boro’s climb to the Championship summit. Such outlay would underline Leeds’ aim to consolidate in the top flight.
Middlesbrough’s promotion push could complicate matters. If they return to the Premier League, they would be better placed to keep Hackney or even extend his deal, making a transfer harder. Should that bid falter, Leeds could be among the front-runners.
Leeds’ interest also affects Ao Tanaka’s outlook. The Japan international, pivotal in their Championship win, has had limited opportunities, and Hackney’s all-action profile appears aligned with Daniel Farke’s midfield plans.
For Leeds, pursuing Hackney is about ambition as much as depth. If they can pull it off, the deal could be a turning point in their attempt to establish themselves as Premier League mainstays.
