Chelsea confirmed Alonso as their new manager last weekend, with the Spaniard signing a four year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso will officially begin work on July 1st, and unlike both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior he’s been given the title of manager.

Don Hutchinson calls for Xabi Alonso to be given control at Chelsea

It’s seen as a real coup that Chelsea have been able to appoint Alonso, and there’s understood to be great excitement amongst the players over the decision.

Reece James has labelled Alonso an amazing manager, whilst Trevoh Chalobah has stated he can’t wait to work under the 44-year-old.

It’s believed Alonso will have a say in transfers, and Hutchinson feels he needs to have control if he’s going to be a success at Chelsea.

“He needs to have a lot more control than previous managers have had and I think he will get it because he commands respect,” he told BBC Sport as quoted on X.com.

“He’s not a rookie coach, he’s not a young guy. He is well respected as a footballer and a manager.”
