“He will be pushing for a start” – Joe Cole agrees with fans that this B team player should be upgraded

Today’s Chelsea win over Heidenheim was much tougher than it sounds.

It was 2-0 in the end, but the home team had two goals disallowed. Beyond that, they also found Chelsea’s B team goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen in top form. The Swedish Dane made some big saves to keep his team ahead, and once again had fans online calling for him to get a chance in the first team ahead of Robert Sanchez, who is widely considered the weak point in the Chelsea team right now.

Jorgensen also almost had a clanger in possession – which was quite Sanchez in itself – but we’ll forget about that.

On TNT Sports, Joe Cole and Peter Crouch both agreed that the summer signing had played well, and was really pushing for a start in the Premier League now.

“Filip Jorgensen was good in goal tonight,” Cole said.

“You don’t hear his name too much because he isn’t flashy. He has faced a lot of shots and he has produced moments. He will be pushing for a start over Robert Sanchez.”

Jorgensen and fellow B team players face same problem in convincing Maresca

Much like the rest of the players who have become Conference League regulars – from Christopher Nkunku and Benoit Badiashile to Mykhailo Mudryk – Jorgensen faces a tough battle to earn a Premier League start. While he can play well (and he certainly did tonight), that’s sort of par for the course in this competition. Playing badly counts against you, but given the standard of opposition, playing well doesn’t really move the needle in terms of forcing Enzo Maresca into changes.

Still, at least he’s getting these games, and at least he’s doing well. Whether sooner or later, his chance will come. He’s just got to make the most of it.
