With just one game of the Championship season remaining, Plymouth Argyle are almost certain to be relegated to League One.

After a disappointing first half of the season, Plymouth parted company with head coach Wayne Rooney in December following just five wins from his 25 games in charge, with Miron Muslic taking over as his replacement at Home Park.

The Pilgrims sat bottom of the table and were three points from safety when Muslic arrived, but despite the challenging circumstances he inherited, the 42-year-old has impressed, winning eight, drawing five and losing nine of his 22 games in charge so far.

There have been plenty of positive moments during Muslic's tenure, with Argyle picking up home wins against promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion, Millwall, Norwich City, Sheffield United and Coventry City, as well as securing their only two away victories of the campaign at Portsmouth and Preston North End, while they also knocked new Premier League champions Liverpool out of the FA Cup.

However, Plymouth's improvement under Muslic will not be enough to keep them in the division, as despite only being three points from safety with one game to play, their goal difference is significantly worse than those around them, and their relegation will be confirmed on Saturday regardless of the result of their home clash against league leaders Leeds United.

When asked if he believes Muslic will stay at the club next season, FLW's Plymouth Argyle fan pundit Chris insisted he was confident the Pilgrims can keep hold of their highly-rated manager, despite the possibility of interest from elsewhere.

"Argyle's time in the Championship looks set to come to an end after the final whistle at Home Park when we play Leeds United," Chris said.

"After this, there are certainly many questions going around among fans who are concerned about player retention, as well as backroom staff and further investment.

"In terms of players, there are plenty of concerns over the extension of contracts, such as that of Mustapha Bundu, but also in terms of which players will want to remain and play League One football, including the likes of Ryan Hardie and Bali Mumba.

"Not only that, but there are also concerns relating to the future financing of the club and the hiring of a new sporting director.

"Simon Hallett has indicated that there is going to be a new director of football, as well as further investment in the club, but there have been rumours of new investment in previous months and nothing has materialised or been announced by the club.

"One concerning aspect that remains on many fans' minds is the future of Miron Muslic, who joined us as a replacement for Wayne Rooney in the early part of the year.

"Many fans will agree that he has done wonders for not only boosting the morale of the players, but also in the acquisition of players, such as Maksym Talovierov, and in getting the best out of the players.

"The performances have followed, most notably in our wins over Sheffield United, and more recently, Preston, in which we managed to keep hold of tight leads and gain extra points to give us a slim chance of getting out of the relegation zone.

"However, our goal difference seems to be our big issue.

"I believe there will be many clubs hunting for Muslic as he has shown what he is able to do on low budgets and with a very set style of play.

"However, in the long-term, I believe that, even with the outside interest of European clubs and domestic ones such as West Brom and Norwich, he will stick it out with Argyle.

"His recent comments after the game against Preston, which pretty much confirmed relegation, were that he believes we can bounce back up to Championship football.

"I believe this dedication shows that he is willing to stay with the club and continue the project to help us become a more sustainable Championship club in the future."

Plymouth have had a track record of losing managers to other clubs, with Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher departing for Preston and Stoke City respectively in recent years, and they will be concerned that history could repeat itself with Muslic this summer.

The Pilgrims have picked up 26 points from their 20 league games under Muslic, which is essentially mid-table form, and that underlines just how much of an improvement he has inspired in his side, while he has also earned plenty of admirers for the way he has conducted himself in the media.

Muslic admitted that he felt "empty and hearbroken" after Argyle's relegation was effectively confirmed on Saturday, showing his clear passion for the club, but he has proven he is more than capable of managing in the Championship over the past few months, and he may find it tough to turn down the opportunity to remain in the second tier if he receives an attractive offer.
