In April 2024, Raphaël Varane told L'Équipe that the dangers of heading should be taught across amateur pitches and to young players.

The World Cup winner said he had suffered several concussions with direct effects on his health. He pushed for better care and stronger prevention around heading risks for youngsters.

Two years on from those comments, Como, the final club of his career, lists Varane on its board. His former club has acted.
