Christian Heidel has paved the way for Paul Nebel to leave Mainz 05 this summer.

Nebel does not want to extend his contract. The 23-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the upcoming season, which could leave Mainz without a transfer fee.

“There is no piece of paper between Paul and Mainz 05. But, with him and his management, we clearly discussed how to proceed,” said Heidel. He was speaking to Bild. Mainz continued their preparations with a 3-0 win over Holstein Kiel.

“There is a clear agreement. If Paul (Nebel) comes to us with a club to which he would like to go, and if they make us a market-oriented transfer offer, we will endeavour to reach an agreement. If the offer is not significant, we will not agree to a change.”

Nebel has scored 15 Bundesliga goals since establishing himself in the side after a loan spell in Karlsruhe.
