Lauren Hemp has described the City squad as ‘incredible’ after our dramatic late victory against Liverpool in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Rebecca Knaak’s stoppage time header was enough for a gutsy 1-0 win, which moves the Blues within touching distance of the league title.

City need a win on the final day of the 2025/26 campaign to be crowned champions, but it looked like we’d have to settle for a point until the German’s intervention.

Hemp felt it was just rewards for our efforts on the day, despite an impressive display from the visitors.

She said: “Liverpool were very good, they caused us a lot of problems, especially at the start. It’s so hard to compose yourself when a goal like that goes in.

“We were pushing in the second half, we took the level up massively, we were creating so many chances and, in the end, we deserved it.

“We’ve worked so hard this season and moments like that make it worth it. Obviously, we’ve still got more to go, we’ve still got a game next week to get us into a final, and the pressure gets piled up.

“But this team is incredible and I’m so pleased to be part of it.”

The win was also the perfect response to last week’s frustrating defeat at Brighton, which saw City beaten 3-2 on the south coast.

Hemp added that the team have been working tirelessly ahead of Liverpool’s visit in order to put things right.

The result also provides a platform from which to build on against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals and then West Ham United on the final day of the WSL season.

“It gives us confidence going into the next game,” she said.

“We wanted to make a statement in the league today because we were so frustrated with last week’s performance.

“We’ve been working hard all week and it’s what this group deserves. Now we can sit back and watch a few games unfold.”
