FC Barcelona were able to make their way to the Copa del Rey semi-finals as they won against Valencia last night in the quarter-finals clash. The Blaugranes put 5 goals past their hosts at the Mestalla, and thus remain one of the favorites to win the King’s Cup this season.
Ferran Torres was clearly the most notable player, as he scored a hat-trick in the first 30 minutes of the match against his former club. Fermín López and Lamine Yamal also added one goal apiece to their names.
Another player who was not able to get on the scoresheet but was once again very impressive in this encounter was the midfielder Pedri. The Canarian once again bossed the midfield from a deep role, and contributed directly to the third goal scored by Fermín López by providing him with an assist.
After contributing to his team’s win, the midfielder was also able to get some rest as Flick subbed him out for Marc Casadó in the 64th minute.
As Diario AS has reported, Hansi Flick once again praised the Spanish international as he addressed the press after the game. The German coach was clear that Pedri is a highly unique player:
“I can’t say much. You can’t compare him because he’s an incomparable player. He enjoys football, and it’s beautiful to watch him play, no matter where he is. He helps the team a lot and always plays for the team. I’m happy that he’s here for a long time.”
Over the years, the Canary Islander has shown his adaptability in the different midfield roles at Barcelona. He has already shown his effectiveness playing higher up the pitch, as an attacking midfielder, and this season, Flick is using him in a deeper role and getting good returns from this deployment.
Thus, Pedri remains one of the most important pieces of this Blaugrana team, and his good performances will be key as the Catalans go deeper into the season.
