Opponents are in awe of what the 17-year-old has been doing this season and last night’s opposition player, Papa Gueye, was full of praise for Yamal and revealed what his teammates talk about the €180m-rated Barcelona sensation. As quoted by Foot Mercato on X (translated into English) he said:

“Today, Yamal is the one who decides Barça’s actions… at 17 years old! He’s really very mature in his game. When he was doing crazy things, some of our players would say: ‘Wallah, he’s better than Messi!'”

These Lionel Messi comparisons are almost inevitable for any talented forward coming through at Barcelona, especially when he is a left-footed right winger who does so many things similar to the Argentine who once had the Camp Nou at their toes with his talent.

Unfazed by pressure

However, the best thing about Lamine Yamal is that despite being just 17, he looks completely unfazed by the hype surrounding him. He is respectful of what Messi has done for the club but looks keen to write his own chapter in the history books.

With 43 goal contributions at just 17, Lamine Yamal is already doing things most seasoned pros can only dream of. His rapid growth, fearless approach, and humility amid soaring praise set him apart as more than just a prodigy.
