Chelsea’s defeat to PSG over two legs was embarrassing both on the pitch and off it. The Blues were given a footballing lesson between the white lines, and in the technical area, Liam Rosenior looked lost.
He was chewing a pen, shouting out order that nobody listened to, and watching helplessly as his side were brushed aside. One incident late on summed up his inability to convince anyone he’s got the authority or experience for the job.
He handed Alejandro Garnacho a note, in the 86th minute, with Chelsea 8-2 down on aggregate. Watching on Italian TV, Fabio Capello said this was a crazy move:
“He’s out of his mind. He did something that will make the players laugh. That’s what they think. You saw his [Garnacho’s] face when he entered the pitch with that note; he was like: ‘What are you saying to me?'”
And Capello is a guy who know about losing the respect of dressing rooms, that’s for sure.
The note was really to give the team a new shape, as they were down to ten men with Trevoh Chalobah having gone off. We can understand why Rosenior would want to communicate clearly with his team and stop them conceding more.
But we agree that it does look like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
The shocking performance from the team is already bringing rumours about players like Enzo Fernandez wanting to leave.
If Fernandez does leaves, it looks like a replacement is already being lined up. There are a lots of rumours about Valentin Barco coming in.
