Hey, Pascal Jansen, give Talles Magno more of a shot with NYCFC in MLS

Last week, Talles Magno was given a rare start with New York City FC during the U.S. Open Cup match.  The forward scored three goals in a 5-2 win over the USL League One team Westchester SC.  The hat-trick was incredible to see, but many will bring up the fact that it was against a team in the third division.

Still, did anyone ever think that Magno would be back with NYCFC scoring a hat-trick one year ago?  When he initially left on a loan deal, this was an idea that was not in the cards.  But hey, that is life, and the Brazilian is getting a chance to turn things around.  He still has the potential to be a top player, and this is already seen in how he plays.

Hence, with the recent four-game winless streak in Major League Soccer, it would not hurt to give Magno a shot in the starting lineup.  So, give him a chance.

Pascal Jansen must give Talles Magno a chance with NYCFC

But recently, it has come out that Pascal Jansen does not feel like he is ready to start in MLS as of yet due to his physical level.  He said he cannot compete with the starters based on that.  But again, despite some good play during the winless streak, the results are not where they should be for NYCFC.

That is why it would not hurt for Magno to start.  He has been a burst of energy off the bench and has also scored one goal in MLS.  It is not just the goals that he has scored as of now, but the way he plays.  His ability to control the ball and put himself in scoring positions means that he can be a scoring threat.  What he likely needs is more time in matches.  And sometimes, Jansen brings him on as a substitute too late.

The head coach needs to adjust that viewpoint and give the winger a chance.  He could not find the back of the net against Charlotte FC this past weekend, but he still changed the final third when he came on as a substitute.  Magno should at least be given a chance at this time since there is nothing to lose.

Of course, he should not start as a striker.  Some of his best work on Saturday was when he was coming in from the right side.  It is fine when he is up front and center when it is part of his wandering in the final third, but it is vital that Magno gets to be himself.  NYCFC needs goals, so why not give him a chance this week during the midweek game, even until halftime?  After all, the squad is in the middle of multiple weeks where they play in the middle of the week.

Between the need for rotation and how Magno is playing when he is on the pitch, Jansen must give the Brazilian a shot and start him.  NYCFC needs to try something new.
