Nice midfielder Hicham Boudaoui will miss Friday’s return leg against Saint-Étienne after a heavy blow to the face in the first game triggered concussion protocol.

He was substituted in the 10th minute of Tuesday’s first leg in Saint-Étienne, which finished 0-0. As reported by Nice-Matin, he was withdrawn under concussion protocol, which requires tests 72 hours after the incident.

The blow was tough for Boudaoui on Tuesday, but a day later it feels tougher still for Nice.

Claude Puel will therefore be without the Algerian for what is described as the club’s most important match of the season.

The return fixture is scheduled to kick off at 20:45 on Friday.
