The La Liga title race is far from decided, but Barcelona have given themselves a strong platform heading into the final stretch of the season.
With nine games still to play and 27 maximum points left on the table, the battle remains open.
Yet, there is one statistic that strongly tilts the story in Barça’s favour.
Currently sitting on 73 points, Barcelona hold a four-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of the table.
It is a solid advantage, but not an unassailable one. However, history suggests that this number could be far more significant than it initially appears.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have an extraordinary record when reaching this points tally at this stage of the season.
Every time they have accumulated 73 points or more, they have gone on to win the La Liga title.
As per the outlet, this is now the seventh time Barcelona have reached 73 points at this stage of a campaign.

On the previous six occasions, they finished the job and lifted the trophy.
Those seasons include 2009-10, 2010-11, 2012-13, 2015-16, 2017-18, and 2022-23.
In some cases, such as the 2009-10 and 2015-16 seasons, the title race went down to the very last day, showing that even with a strong points total, nothing was handed to them easily.
This is where the current situation becomes particularly interesting.
Barcelona are the only team capable of reaching that historical benchmark again this season.
At the same time, the schedule ahead is demanding.
Depending on their progress in Europe, Hansi Flick’s side could still have between 11 and 14 matches remaining across all competitions.
Despite the challenges, though, the numbers tell a powerful story, as Barcelona are walking a path that has consistently ended in success.
