Kicker reports that Kasper Hjulmand’s recent team choices at Leverkusen have unsettled the squad, with debate triggered by the swift recall of Mark Flekken.

Following a long knee injury, Hjulmand immediately restored Flekken as goalkeeper last weekend, despite Janis Blaswich impressing against Arsenal in his absence.

Inside the camp and publicly, that move was viewed as a departure from the coach’s usual merit-based selections.

His approach had already raised eyebrows earlier this year as he regularly started Jonas Hofmann at right wing-back. Hofmann was then introduced on the left in the 4-0 win over FC St. Pauli, prompting further questions.

Meanwhile, some players felt short of minutes, something that can occur under any coach. Combined with the decision against Blaswich, it has not strengthened Hjulmand’s standing within the group.

The fact that confusion over Blaswich’s demotion has leaked from the dressing room is seen as another sign of a weakened position, amid recent lack of progress and disappointing Bundesliga results.
