While many fans are hoping for a spectacular summer of transfers in 2026, Uli Hoeneß is striking a much softer tone. The honorary president of FC Bayern makes it clear that economic rationality has top priority – even if this means that supposedly desirable transfers fall by the wayside
„I see it this way: FC Bayern in particular has proven this year that we have recognised the signs of the times. The moment we realised that our fixed deposit account was getting smaller and smaller, we put the brakes on. Our transfer balance is very balanced, and we are also in the process of reducing the squad. If we had signed all the players we talked about, we would no longer have a fixed deposit account today and would have had to take out loans to finance it. That was precisely the decisive impulse for us to say ’no‘,“ Hoeneß explained in an interview with BILD
Hoeneß pointed out that this course has so far paid off in sporting terms. Instead of expensive new additions, the club has increasingly relied on internal solutions and young players: „On the contrary. We have deliberately given our lads opportunities. If we had brought in more players, the coach would have been obliged to use them. But then there would be no Karl, perhaps no Stanisic or no Pavlovic. Our success confirms that this must be the path FC Bayern takes,“ said the Bayern patriarch
The development of home-grown talent and young professionals such as Aleksandar Pavlovic and Josip Stanisic in particular underpins the chosen path from the point of view of those responsible. Big names at any price should no longer be the guiding principle in future

Hoeneß has also announced restraint for the coming summer: „We won’t be making big moves on the transfer market in the summer either. The credo is: transfers must not lead to us getting into debt. There’s no room for compromise for me.“
Nevertheless, the record champions are not completely without financial leeway. Hoeneß made it clear: „We always have reserves. The season has gone very well so far. With seven wins in the Champions League, we have already earned more than 14 million euros (2.1 million per win, editor’s note), which we had not even calculated on. But we won’t know for sure whether the fixed deposit account will experience a renaissance until the end of the financial year.“
