FC Bayern are on the verge of breaking a historic Bundesliga record – and Uli Hoeneß is already sure when the time will come
Munich are marching through the Bundesliga this season with an impressive attacking force and are rapidly approaching the legendary record of 101 goals. In an interview with kicker, honorary president Uli Hoeneß made it clear that he has no doubt that the record will soon be broken
When asked when the record would be broken, the 74-year-old answered succinctly and confidently: „Two games.“
Given the current goal rate of Vincent Kompany’s team, this assessment is anything but bold. FC Bayern are averaging well over three goals per game this season and are in particularly impressive form offensively
Hoeneß has also already decided on the total number of goals at the end of the season: „I say 115,“ explained the Bayern patron, meaning that the record champions would not only just surpass the old figure, but clearly surpass it
Despite the outstanding offensive performances, Hoeneß warns against taking the remaining games too lightly, however, as the additional pressure of the Champions League could be a decisive factor in the final stretch of the season
„You mustn’t forget that we still have difficult Champions League games. That’s the problem when you play on Wednesdays and the others are rested.“
Hoeneß also referred to the recent setback in the Bundesliga: „You saw that Augsburg won here. They deserved to win! Because we were simply broken.“
Hoeneß finds the question of who will score the historic 102nd goal particularly exciting, and for him there is a clear favorite: Harry Kane
„Actually, Harry Kane has to score it, because he deserves it.“
And he continues: „Anyone who puts in such outstanding performances must also score the record goal.“

The Englishman is playing an outstanding season and, with his scoring rate, is one of the main reasons why Munich are now seriously attacking the old record. Kane is not only the team’s top scorer, but also one of the defining figures in FC Bayern’s attack
For Hoeneß, the current season is not an ordinary one anyway. The former president emphasized: „Now we are playing almost perfect soccer, everything fits together.“
At the same time, he was cautious as to whether this level can be maintained in the long term: „I almost fear that it can’t stay like this for the next few years.“
Nevertheless, Hoeneß sees the current development as a clear sign for the future of the record champions. Above all, the mixture of top players and hungry young players makes him optimistic: „If Vincent succeeds in continuing to integrate these young and hungry people, it will be a great future for Bayern Munich.“
