Rasmus Hojlund has said he knows he ‘didn’t do well’ in his second season at Manchester United after leaving the club last summer.
Hojlund moved to Napoli on loan last summer after struggling at Old Trafford. The Denmark international scored just four Premier League goals last season and was deemed surplus to requirements after the signings of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
Hojlund has rediscovered form upon a return to Italy. He’s scored 14 goals in all competitions for the Serie A side, with sporting director Giovanni Manna recently confirming that Hojlund will stay at the club beyond the summer.
Napoli have an obligation to sign Hojlund permanently for £38m if the club secure Champions League qualification.
“There are no doubts. Rasmus Hojlund will stay here,” Manna said recently.
“We have an obligation to buy from Man Utd, if Napoli qualify for Champions League, but he is in our plans despite this condition.”
Hojlund has now reflected on a tough time in Manchester and was candid in admitting his performances were not good enough. However, he believes he has matured since signing for Napoli.
“If we look at the last periods at Manchester United I didn’t do well, I am aware of it, but now many things have changed. I have grown more,” he said to Danish broadcaster TV2.
Hojlund is currently with the Denmark squad preparing for tomorrow’s World Cup play-off against North Macedonia.
