A fresh update from journalist Mario Cortegana in The Athletic has reopened the door on Kylian Mbappe’s involvement in the Spanish Super Cup, with the French star not completely ruled out of featuring in a potential final.
While his absence from the semi-final is confirmed, Real Madrid are still clinging to cautious optimism behind the scenes.
Mbappe was forced to sit out Real Madrid’s emphatic 5–1 victory over Real Betis after suffering a sprain to his left knee.
That injury has also definitively ruled him out of the semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid, a major blow given his importance to the team’s attacking structure.
Earlier reports suggested the tournament was already over for him, but Cortegana’s information now paints a different picture.
Despite not travelling to Saudi Arabia with the rest of the squad, Mbappe has remained in Madrid to focus entirely on his recovery.
Real Madrid have taken the decision to leave two key members of their medical staff, namely, Sebastian Devillaz and Guillermo Zurdo, in Spain specifically to work with the forward.

The objective is to maximise his chances of being fit in time for the final, should Madrid progress past Atletico.
Those close to the situation have indicated that Mbappe’s potential return has not been dismissed internally.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, they maintain that if Real Madrid reach the final, a late assessment could yet open the door for the Frenchman’s involvement.
The club is deliberately keeping their options open rather than rushing to rule him out prematurely.
Back in Madrid, the injury is being treated with extreme caution and the medical staff describe it as an issue that requires daily monitoring, with recovery heavily dependent on Mbappe’s pain tolerance.
As such, there is no fixed timeline, only constant evaluation, which is why nothing is ruled out at the moment.
