Bayern Munich have moved quickly in the summer transfer market, bringing in two key additions in the shape of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown and PSV’s Ismael Saibari for around €50 million each.
Both players will be in contention to start when the German champions play their first competitive match of the 2026/27 season, facing Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup at Signal Iduna Park on 22 August.
With more than a month until that clash, how are Bayern Munich currently expected to line up heading into the new campaign?
In goal, Manuel Neuer remains the undisputed first choice after signing a one-year contract extension, although Jonas Urbig is expected to receive more opportunities throughout the season.
At right-back, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic are competing for the starting spot, with the Austrian international currently appearing to have a slight advantage. Laimer, who can also operate in midfield, is expected to sign a new contract extending beyond 2027 in the near future.
In central defence, Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah will remain the preferred pairing, while Nathaniel Brown and Alphonso Davies face an intriguing battle to start at left-back. The Canada captain will now look to regain full fitness ahead of the new season and prove he remains the preferred option at left-back.
Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic remain the favoured midfield partnership, while Michael Olise, Luis Diaz and Harry Kane are all guaranteed starters as well.
The biggest question mark in attack surrounds the central attacking midfield position, where Bayern have three outstanding options competing for one starting spot: Jamal Musiala, new signing Ismael Saibari and wonderkid Lennart Karl.
Musiala will benefit from a full pre-season as he continues his return to peak form and is currently expected to start the season as the first choice. Saibari and Karl are both currently recovering from injuries, but will provide strong competition once they return. The same applies to Serge Gnabry, who is also working his way back to full fitness following an injury.
Manuel Neuer – Konrad Laimer (Josip Stanisic), Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, Nathaniel Brown (Alphonso Davies) – Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic – Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala (Ismael Saibari), Luis Diaz – Harry Kane.
