The on-loan Bayern Munich goalkeeper is open to remaining at Southampton for the long term
Southampton have been on a surge up the Championship table under Tonda Eckert, and they've hit a different gear in 2026.
No side has lost fewer games than Tonda Eckert's side in 2026, and only Norwich City have picked up more points since the calendar flipped, too. With Southampton also resembling the only Championship side in the FA Cup's last eight, too, it's been a great year thus far at St Mary's.
All of it starts from the back, though, and, while Sport Republic often get criticised for their transfers, there's no doubting that the January arrival of Daniel Peretz on loan from Bayern Munich has been a masterstroke.
The Israeli shot-stopper is proving why he's on the books at one of the biggest clubs in European football, putting in countless impressive performances and keeping six clean sheets in 13 second-tier games along the way.
Saints fans are hoping that he doesn't become another loan player that you fall in love with, only to see them move on at the end of the deal, and the club are doing their best to ensure that doesn't happen.

Southampton had a serviceable shot-stopper in Gavin Bazunu throughout the first half of the campaign, but after just three clean sheets in 19 games, and a 4-0 loss to Middlesbrough in his most recent outing, the higher-ups at St Mary's jumped on the opportunity to upgrade in January.
Peretz was brought in, and while it wasn't made 100% clear if he had an option to buy, German outlets in March revealed that the Saints did, indeed, have one at around €8 million.
That has now been confirmed by The Sun's Jack Rosser, who, via his X account, has revealed that Tonda Eckert's side have a £7 million option to buy, and are "keen" to exercise that, seeing his stay at St Mary's last a little longer than a few months.
Rosser also states that there are other clubs interested in the 25-year-old, which is understandable given his performances, but the goalkeeper is open to remaining on the south coast, regardless.
It's a positive step in the right direction, and Southampton fans will be hoping that he'll be signing a contract sooner rather than later.

Peretz has been a key component of Southampton's current 12-game unbeaten run in the Championship, which has seen Tonda Eckert's side climb into the top six ahead of the final month of the campaign.
He's kept five clean sheets in his seven home games and was instrumental in their big win over league leaders Coventry City at the CBS Arena a few weeks ago.
Southampton will have the advantage over fellow suitors, as the Israeli international knows what the club is about and is clearly enjoying his time back playing regular football after a few years on the bench at Bayern and at Hamburg on loan in the first half of the ongoing season.
But, if the Saints remain in the Championship, and sides in their respective top-flight throw their names in the hat to bring him to their club in the summer, it could be hard to turn them down, as he evidently has qualities that would make him feel at home in the Premier League or elsewhere.
So, while the 25-year-old is seemingly open to remaining at St Mary's regardless of which division they are in, being in the Premier League next season would make his decision to stay a lot easier.
