Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer wants to leave the club this summer, but Leeds United is unlikely to be his next destination.

Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer is reportedly keen to leave Bramall Lane this summer, but he has reservations about making a move to Leeds United.

That's according to Dutch outlet SoccerNews, who claim that Hamer is looking to leave Sheffield United this summer for the Premier League, but he has doubts about joining a newly-promoted side in Leeds.

After arriving at Bramall Lane from Coventry City for a fee of £15 million in the summer of 2023, Hamer scored five goals and provided eight assists in 38 appearances as the Blades were relegated from the top flight in his first year at the club, and he again played a starring role last season in the Championship.

However, despite Hamer's contribution, United were unable to secure an immediate return to the Premier League, with Leeds and Burnley pipping them to automatic promotion before they were beaten 2-1 by Sunderland in the play-off final at Wembley in May.

After missing out on promotion, the Blades may be vulnerable to losing Hamer this summer, but as things stand, it does not seem as though he will be making the switch to their Yorkshire rivals.

Leeds have held a long-standing interest in Hamer, and they had two bids for the midfielder rejected by Sheffield United last summer, the first of which was worth £13 million and the second included forward Joel Piroe in a player-plus-cash offer.

It appears their interest in Hamer remains, but SoccerNews claim that negotiations to bring him to Elland Road "haven't been going smoothly yet", and, despite wanting to secure a Premier League move this summer, he is not thought to be "immediately interested" in joining the newly-promoted Whites or fellow top flight newcomers Burnley.

Leeds are not the only club keeping tabs on Hamer this summer, with PSV Eindhoven also believed to be among his suitors, and while he was not initially believed to be a priority target for the Dutch champions, they are said to be "hopeful" of landing his signature this summer, although a "good offer" would be required.

Brazilian side Palmeiras were also linked with a move for Hamer this week, but while he is reportedly looking to leave Bramall Lane this summer, he does not want to "force" a departure, which will be a boost for new Blades head coach Ruben Selles.

Hamer is under contract with United until the summer of 2027, and Selles made it clear earlier in the summer that he is keen to keep hold of the midfielder, telling The Star: "I don’t manage those things.

"But I want to keep Gustavo with me, with us with the club. He’s been fantastic for the club, his way to play and his quality and the way he plays. That’s always going to be our line.

"We know the market is fluid and that things can happen, but my main target is to keep him and keep a lot of other players with us."

Sheffield United will be reluctant to lose Hamer this summer, but with the player believed to be eyeing an exit from Bramall Lane, it seems increasingly likely he will be moving on before the end of the transfer window.

Given that the three promoted sides have gone straight back down from the Premier League in the last two seasons, it is understandable that Hamer has doubts about joining Leeds, but with no other top flight clubs seemingly interested at this point, a move to Elland Road could be his only chance of playing among England's elite in the upcoming campaign.

With clubs in the Netherlands and Brazil also believed to be keen on Hamer, it is possible that one of them could agree a deal with United over the coming weeks, but if no bids materialise, the Whites may be optimistic they can land their long-term target later in the window.
