Steven Schumacher’s side won both legs 1-0, with Amario Cozier-Duberry and Xavier Simons scoring in either fixture.

The Whites haven’t competed in the second tier of English football since 2019, but are now one win away from a long-awaited return to the Championship.

But first they must face Stockport County, who finished above Schumacher’s team in the regular League One table.

Only two points separated the teams at the end of the campaign, as they fell somewhat short of Cardiff City in second place.

Bolton will be returning to Wembley Stadium two years after losing at the home of the England national team in the play-off final to Oxford United.

Former Bolton star Ivan Campo has celebrated the club’s win over Bradford on social media, expressing his excitement at the club’s return to Wembley.

He wrote on his Instagram: “Yeessssssssss.

“We’re coming to Wembley.”

Bolton have been in League One since gaining promotion from League Two in 2021, and have finished in the top nine on each occasion, regularly knocking on the door of promotion.

Supporters will be hoping that this is their year, as they have reached the play-offs for a third time since returning to the third tier.

However, they will be facing a tricky opponent in Stockport, who earned a third place finish this season.

Dave Challinor’s side won 3-0 on aggregate in their semi-final against Stevenage, booking their place at Wembley Stadium.

Campo will be hoping that Schumacher’s side can seal promotion, having played for the club from 2002 to 2008.

The Spaniard initially arrived on loan from Real Madrid before sealing a permanent move, becoming a firm fan favourite during his time in the team.

He made 172 appearances in the Premier League for Bolton, scoring on 13 occasions, with the team reaching a high point of a sixth place finish in 2005 under Sam Allardyce.

The 52-year-old will be hoping to see the Whites return to that kind of point again in the future, with the club suffering a steep decline with their relegation from the top flight in 2012.

That rise back up the divisions can continue with a play-off final win, with the Wembley clash set to take place on 24 May in a 1pm kick-off.

Bolton have earned their shot at promotion

Bolton haven’t always been the most consistent team this season, but at their best they’ve shown they can beat anyone in the division.

They have been knocking on the door of promotion over the last few years, and Schumacher’s side have earned the chance at promotion with their win over Bradford.

However, Stockport will prove tough competitors later this month in what could be a fiercely competitive fixture.

Bolton were unable to beat Challinor’s team in either of their league meetings this season, highlighting the size of the task ahead of them when the two teams face each other at Wembley Stadium.
