Josh Windass has opened up on his Wrexham future after the team's seventh place finish
Wrexham narrowly missed out on a play-off place in their first year in the Championship under Phil Parkinson.
The Red Dragons have enjoyed a remarkable rise from the National League to the second tier of English football.
The Welsh outfit were aiming to earn a fourth consecutive promotion, but a final day draw with Middlesbrough saw them fall out of the top six.
Parkinson’s side finished seventh in the table, missing out on sixth by just two points, consigning the club to another year at this level.
Wrexham will now be targeting the summer transfer window as an opportunity to bolster the first team squad for another promotion push next year.
However, holding onto key talent will also be a crucial factor in whether they’ll be able to contend for a top eight finish in 2027, with the play-offs set to expand from the next campaign.

Windass has claimed that his future is with Wrexham following the team’s failure to secure a top six finish on the final day of the Championship season.
The forward joined the Red Dragons last summer after his exit from Sheffield Wednesday, and he’s suggested that he intends to stick to the three-year deal he signed.
"Yeah, I signed a three-year deal in the summer,” Windass told talkSPORT.
"I feel like I had a really good year this year, and yeah, hopefully next year we can go one better."
Windass also shut down any speculation that he could move to MLS this summer, claiming that he is going to America soon but it is just a family holiday.
“Yeah, it must be a fake account because I'm not [moving to MLS],” Windass added.
"I'm going to America on holiday in the next few weeks, that's about it."
The 32-year-old was also linked with a potential return to Rangers, with Wrexham rejecting a loan offer for the playmaker in the January transfer window.
Windass spent two seasons at Ibrox earlier in his career, where he contributed 13 goals and 11 assists from 55 league appearances.
A return to the Glasgow outfit would mean a reunion with former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, who is currently in charge as head coach.
The pair worked well together at Hillsborough, with Windass registering 13 goals and five assists as the Owls finished 12th in the Championship in 2025.
But the duo both departed the Yorkshire outfit amid financial issues 12 months ago, and the club have suffered relegation to League One in the aftermath of their exit.
Wrexham will now be planning for another Championship season, and Windass is set to be a part of Parkinson’s first team plans - he contributed 15 goals and five assists from 41 appearances for the Welsh outfit in 2025/26.

Wrexham almost got the result they needed against Middlesbrough on the final day, and Windass was a key part of that with his impressive free kick to make it 1-1.
His experience has been a valuable addition to the dressing room at the Racecourse Ground, and it would be a big loss if he left this summer.
The 32-year-old still has plenty to offer on the pitch as well, as he ended the campaign as their top scorer.
Parkinson will surely see Windass as a key part of his first team plans for next season, with Wrexham eyeing another push for promotion to the Premier League.
