The England U21’s boss has opened up on his thoughts about the Canaries forward.

Norwich City have been on a meteoric rise in recent months under Philippe Clement, and may well have got themselves in the play-off mix had he been appointed a few weeks earlier.

The East Anglian outfit have been on such an impressive resurgence under the Frenchman, with Clement originally taking over a team second from bottom in the Championship standings with nine points from 15 games, as well as losing all eight of their home matches at the beginning of the term.

But in stark contrast, Norwich have taken 45 points from 24 matches under his leadership, while a 1-0 victory away at Charlton Athletic before the international break stretched Norwich to a run of 12 victories from their last 17 league outings, as they propelled into the top-half of the standings and nine points within a spot inside the top six.

However, with just seven games remaining of the season, Norwich would have to be faultless and hope other sides around them slip up in order to make a late charge for the play-offs, and while it could be possible, it’s a lot of ground to make up in such a short space of time.

So while the Canaries will feel like they have the form to still mount a promotion charge, one eye could be shifting to next season, with Norwich bound to be firm promotion candidates based off the form they’ve shown this term under Clement.

One player who is bound to play such an important part to that is Jovon Makama, who has ignited himself onto the Championship stage in yellow and green after joining last summer from Lincoln City.

Makama has netted 10 times in 28 games so far this term, but the Canaries have been without his services for their last eight league outings as he continues to recover from a foot injury, although a report by the BBC does admit he could well miss the remainder of the campaign with this issue.

Nevertheless, Makama has been such a bright spark for this Norwich team and can hopefully get back to where he left off when he returns, with his ability to regularly find the net needed if the Canaries are to stand a chance of ending their Premier League exodus any time soon.

Meanwhile, during the international break, the England U21’s have been in action, involved in Euro U21 qualifying.

Over their two matches, they were first held to a 1-1 draw with Andorra, but got back to winning ways with a routine 4-1 victory over Moldova yesterday.

Lee Carsley currently manages the group of young English talent, and has revealed how he feels about Makama when watching him for Norwich.

Lee Carsley drops “really like” verdict over Jovon Makama

As reported by the Pink Un's Connor Southwell, England U21’s boss Lee Carsley admitted he's a big fan of Jovon Makama from his showings at Carrow Road this season, and would have had him in his squad for their recent qualifiers if he hadn't been on the sidelines through injury.

Carsley said: "I really like Jovon. He's a player that we've watched a lot. I've watched a lot of him. I actually spoke to him when he got injured in his last game.

"I wanted him to know that he would have been in the squad, and it's important that he knew that, because what he's doing for Norwich is definitely transferable, I feel, to an international level. In terms of form, he would have been probably one of the main form players in the league, never mind the team.

"Sometimes it's important that they get that from the outside, rather than, obviously, I'm sure he would have been getting a lot of compliments inside the club. But I think it's always good for the players to know that we're watching, and I'm watching every single touch of the ball that they have, every minute that they play. A lot of it is just getting the timing right."

Jovon Makama impressing the right people as his career flourishes

Jovon Makama has been making all the right strides as he continues to level up his career.

He’s taken to the Championship like a duck to water, terrorising second tier defences and being clinical when presented with the opportunities.

This ruthlessness has clearly impressed Lee Carsley, and it will only be a matter of time before he gets an U21 call-up and can show what he can do on a national level.

Of course, he will be deeply frustrated to have such an untimely injury force him out for a lengthy period of time, but this setback could well strengthen his game further and give him the added grit to come back and perform in adversity.

The Nottingham-born frontman is such a top talent in the English game, and provided he can hit the ground running when he eventually returns, he has the potential to go right to the very top in years to come.
