Desperate to get a grip on their fall from grace, Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield for Saturday evening’s must-win Premier League showdown.
The Reds have lost their last four Premier League games in a row. That dismal run is even worse when stretched across all competitions, where they’ve won just one of their last seven outings.
Liverpool welcome Villa to Merseyside on the back of consecutive defeats against Brentford and Crystal Palace, with the latter knocking them out of the League Cup in the fourth round.
The Reds are yet to reap the rewards of their £450 million splurge in the summer transfer window and will hope Villa’s visit offers them some respite.
However, Villa’s form will send shivers down Liverpool’s spine. Unai Emery’s side are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games and are enjoying a four-match winning streak.
Manchester City were their latest victims following a 1-0 win at Villa Park, and Liverpool will be desperate to avoid being the latest casualty in their remarkable renaissance.
As if Slot doesn’t already have a full plate, he is also reeling from an injury crisis that has left several key players sidelined.
Giorgi Mamardashvilli will continue to stand in for the injured Alisson in goal.
Liverpool’s backline has been the subject of intense scrutiny over the past few weeks, but Slot will hope Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Milos Kerkez can keep things tight at the back.
There could be good news in midfield, with Ryan Gravenberch likely to return from injury.
The Dutchman has been out of the loop since picking up an ankle injury during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United earlier in October.
However, Slot confirmed that he should be fit enough to help the team against Villa.
He’ll likely anchor the midfield alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, while Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo provide support for Hugo Ekitike up front.
