Liverpool's squad are said to be "unmoved" by the recent developments which suggest that Trent Alexander-Arnold is on the verge of joining Real Madrid in the summer.
Many fans associated with the Merseyside giants have not been anywhere near as understanding as the club's players. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher admitted that he was "disappointed" with Alexander-Arnold's supposed decision to leave when his contract expires in the summer.
That was a relatively measured approach in comparison to many Liverpool fans who were disgusted by the expected departure of the homegrown academy product which - it should be stressed - has been rumoured all season and is yet to be confirmed by the player or either club. Supposed supporters took to social media to vent their disdain while others even burned replica Alexander-Arnold shirts.
The squad and wider club are described as being far more forgiving. The right-back's Liverpool teammates "understand Alexander-Arnold's position and that it is not just about football, but sampling a different way of life" according to Sky Sports.
However, the report goes on to claim that both Liverpool and Real Madrid are "surprised" by the flood of recent news across English and Spanish outlets claiming that a deal has been effectively struck as "nothing major has changed since January".
Alexander-Arnold's impending departure is expected to have "no bearing" on the future of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who are also approaching the final weeks of their Liverpool contracts. This is a stance echoed by The Athletic, who suggest that Liverpool may "have had a certain amount of clarity on the Alexander-Arnold situation for some time".
Liverpool are thought to be "optimistic" that deals for Salah and Van Dijk can still be struck before the campaign's conclusion. It remains to be seen what the reaction of the remaining squad will be if both of those talismanic figures follow Alexander-Arnold out of the door. The fans certainly won't be impressed.
