Manchester City star Lauren Hemp was forced off the field briefly in their Women’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
She was left on the floor after colliding with teammate Leila Ouahabi in the Chelsea box as they both attacked the same ball four minutes into the second half.
“It will make a lot of people wince,” said TNT co-commentator Rachel Brown-Finnis of the incident.
Blues goalkeeper Hannah Hampton was the first to reach the grounded Hemp, waving the City medical team on the field.
When Hemp sat up, it was clear that she had been hit in the face, and was bleeding from both nostrils.
She then had to leave the field and remove both her long-sleeved undershirt and team shirt as they were covered in blood.
She replaced the layers with a clean shirt with no name on the back.
Manchester City have already won the Women’s Super League this season. That was confirmed after their last remaining challengers Arsenal failed to beat Brighton and Hove Albion in midweek, meaning no other team can now catch them at the top of the table.
City began Sunday with the aim of taking one more step towards a league and cup double.
They faced holders Chelsea in the cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge – but it was the Blues who started the brighter, with Erin Cuthbert scoring in the first half.
Sam Kerr doubled their lead just before the hour mark.
