FLW exclusively revealed City's interest in the dynamic 28-year-old winger on deadline day as they looked to close a temporary switch for his services, and they were able to get a deal over the line to finally add a left-footed winger to their ranks.

Chris Davies oversaw a busy summer for the Midlands outfit after guiding the club to promotion from League One last season.

Roberts is one of five loan signings, with Tommy Doyle, Eiran Cashin, James Beadle and Lewis Koumas also joining for the campaign.

Here, we use ESTIMATED figures from Capology to see how much Birmingham may have to pay Roberts in wages as part of his loan move from Sunderland.

Roberts joined Sunderland when they were still in League One from Man City in January 2022, and was a key part of their rise from the third tier to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old contributed seven goals and 16 assists from 119 regular league appearances across three seasons in the Championship during his time at the Stadium of Light.

However, he found himself down the pecking order under Régis Le Bris following their promotion to the top flight, featuring as a substitute in just one of their opening three fixtures of the new season and an unused one in the other two matches.

Roberts most recently signed a new contract with Sunderland in November 2023, just months after the club reached the play-off semi-finals under Tony Mowbray before being dumped out by Luton Town.

This deal earned the playmaker an estimated weekly wage of £12,500 from the Wearside outfit.

However, that contract is set to expire this summer, although if Sunderland wish, they can trigger the one-year option that is included to extend his deal until 2027.

It remains to be seen just how much of this £12,500 per week that the Blues will have to pay, but it would likely be the full amount as part of their loan deal with the Black Cats.

Davies will be hoping that the 28-year-old has a positive impact on the side, as Birmingham eye a promotion push to the Premier League.

Birmingham made nine permanent additions to their first-team squad over the course of the summer market.

This will have a big impact on their wage bill, as the Blues look to build a team capable of immediately competing at the top end of the Championship after earning promotion from League One.

Prior to his departure on loan to Blackpool, the estimated highest-paid player was goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who arrived last summer in a deal worth an estimated £25,000 per week.

Peacock-Farrell is estimated to be being paid double Roberts’ Sunderland salary, so it is feasible that the Midlands outfit have taken on his full wages as part of the loan deal while remaining affordable.

The wages of all their new signings have not yet been reported, meaning he may have been usurped over the summer, with Kyogo Furuhashi estimated to have been earning over €55,000 a week at Stade Rennais.

Another member of last season's squad - Christoph Klarer is is also estimated to be one of the higher earners in Davies' squad, earning an estimated £15,000 per week.

The likes of Seung-ho Paik and Lyndon Dykes are also said to earn an estimated £15,000 per week from Birmingham too, with the latter failing to move on from St. Andrew’s in the transfer window after a proposed move to Hibernian collapsed.
