FLW's Sky Blues fan pundit has urged the Midlands club to reunite with the in-demand playmaker
Coventry City have given themselves the strongest possible opportunity to seal a first return to the Premier League for a quarter of a century in the final weeks of the current Championship season, with Frank Lampard's side winning four matches on the bounce.
After ending 2025 and starting 2026 in an extremely mixed run of form after a barnstorming start to the campaign, the Sky Blues are now back on top of the second tier after seeing off all of Middlesbrough, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United and Stoke City in the space of two crucial weeks.
It would be a case of 'third time lucky' for the West Midlands outfit, too, having suffered heartache in the Championship play-offs in two of the last three seasons, being defeated by Luton Town in a penalty-shootout in the final at Wembley Stadium in May 2023, before Dan Ballard's last-gasp goal at the Stadium of Light 10 months ago seeing Sunderland progress to the showpiece event on aggregate despite City dominating both matches against the North East side.
However, there is now a strong sense of belief that Coventry will bypass the post-season drama, which would also give them a timely advantage over at least one of their newly-promoted rivals in the transfer market, as Lampard would look to bolster his already impressive squad with further quality and experience.
In recent times, we have seen newly-promoted sides invest in some of the finest talent the Championship has to offer, hoping they can also make the step-up to the Premier League, and that was certainly the case when Sheffield United lured Gustavo Hamer away from the CBS Arena for £15m in the summer of 2023.
However, fast-forward nearly three years, the Dutch-Brazilian's future at Bramall Lane remains uncertain amid well-documented transfer interest, and it has been claimed by Football League World's Coventry City fan pundit, Chris Deez, that the Midlands club should look to reunite with the 28-year-old.
With that in mind, FLW have also looked at how much Hamer is currently earning at Bramall Lane.

Last year's Championship Player of the Season scored 19 times and posted 24 assists in 132 previous games for the Sky Blues between his £1.5m switch from PEC Zwolle and his departure for Bramall Lane, which came after the aforementioned play-off defeat to Luton, in which he scored.
Hamer has since become just as influential for the Blades, and even boasted a record of four goals and seven assists in 36 top-flight games as his current employers finished rock-bottom in 2023/24.
After it was reported that Trabzonspor looked to swoop for his services whilst Chris Wilder hopes to extend his stay in S2 beyond next summer, Deez urged Coventry to consider a sentimental, yet logical reunion with the Itajai-born man.
“If we get promoted, and Hamer is still available for that sort of between £6m and £10m valuation, then I would absolutely snap him up," he said.
“He’s got that Premier League experience now, he did alright at Sheffield United in the Premier League as well.
“I know they didn’t have a great season, but he was by no means bad for them," Deez added.
“It would be a real fairytale to see him come back as well because he was so close in helping us get to the Premier League, one kick away when we lost to Luton at Wembley.
“So it would be nice to experience that with us at some point."

According to Capology, Hamer is currently collecting an ESTIMATED base salary of £30,000 per week with the Steel City side, which sees him take up a fair portion of the club's £606,750 per week wage bill - the second-highest in the Championship.
Only Japhet Tanganga and Kalvin Phillips are said to be earning greater sums of cash, whilst the aforementioned figure would immediately make him Coventry's highest earner, with Luke Woolfenden, Matt Grimes, Ellis Simms and Haji Wright all tied on £25,000 per week.
Although this would clearly be a potential signing aided by sentiment, it is also hard to see if Hamer would immediately slot into City's starting lineup at present, even if they were promoted, with both Jack Rudoni and Ephron Mason-Clark enjoying fine campaigns ahead of what would be the duo's first-ever seasons as individuals in the Premier League.
