Lazio have reportedly taken their Europa League earnings above €20 million after overcoming Viktoria Plzen in the Round of 16.
Alessio Romagnoli kept his extraordinary scoring run going by noding home the equalizer at the Stadio Olimpico. The 1-1 draw in the second leg proved sufficient for the Biancocelesti thanks to their dramatic 2-1 in the Czech Republic in the previous week. Hence, Marco Baroni’s men have now booked a meeting against Bodo/Glimt in the quarter-finals.
According to Calcio e Finanza, reaching the Final 8 yielded another €2.5 million to the club’s coffers, thus raising the club’s overall prize money from their participation in the tournament to €20.8 million. Naturally, this figure would significantly rise if Lazio were to progress to the semi-finals and beyond.
The source also explains the figures in detail, beginning with a €4.3 participation bonus, a €6.2 million from their European coefficient and another €2m from non-European coefficient.
Moreover, the sum includes €3.5 million collected after finishing on top of the group-stage table, in addition to €2.8 million from their results (wins and draws bonuses), plus €1.8 million for reaching the Round of 16.
But while these figures certainly constitute an important boost for the club’s finances, they pale in comparison to the Champions League prize money. Hence, Lazio will be keen to secure a place in Europe’s elite club competition next season, either by pipping Juventus for fourth place in Serie A, or clinching the Europa League trophy.
