Birmingham City have been tipped to return to the Premier League within the next two to three years
Simon Jordan predicted that Birmingham City will be in the Premier League within the next two to three years.
The Blues had their promotion to the Championship confirmed following their 2-1 win over Peterborough United last Tuesday.
This led to the ex-Crystal Palace chairman to predict that the club’s rise would continue with another promotion, earning their place back in the top flight for the first time since 2011.
Speaking on Talksport, he said: “I would not be surprised if [Birmingham or Wrexham] ends up in the Premier League in the next two or three years.”
Here we look at how much Birmingham stand to make if they achieve this feat and return to the Premier League after over a decade away…
Birmingham will be looking to emulate Ipswich Town’s back-to-back promotions if they’re to return to the Premier League for 2026.
The Tractor Boys finished second in League One in 2023 and then again in the Championship in 2024 under Kieran McKenna.
According to 90min, promotion to the Premier League can be worth between £140 to 300 million, depending on the length of their stay in the division.
The bulk of that figure will come from the league’s domestic and international broadcast deals, which amounts to just under £100 million.
The rest is decided based on their finishing position, with clubs earning more based on their standing, along with an additional £1.2 million for each time they are on TV.
The Blues have been out of the top flight since 2011, so a return would be quite welcome by supporters and new owner Tom Wagner.
The American purchased the club in the summer of 2023, with the team suffering relegation during his first season in control.
Promotion would be quite lucrative, although we have seen in recent years that promoted sides have struggled to maintain their place in the division beyond just one year, with all sides going straight back down in the last two campaigns.
Wagner has invested heavily in Birmingham, which is what’s driving so many predictions involving a Premier League return for the club.
Most notably, the Blues smashed the League One transfer record last summer to bring Jay Stansfield back to the team after his initial loan spell from Fulham ended.
It was reported by Sky Sports that a £15 million deal was agreed between the clubs, with the forward proving instrumental in their League One triumph.
It has also been claimed that the club have purchased up to 60-acres of land in a bid to build a new stadium and training ground.
It is hoped that the project will be completed by 2029 to give the club a new 62,000 capacity home.
With a stadium of that size, it is clear that Wagner sees Birmingham as a future Premier League side.
Otherwise, that capacity would far exceed any stadium size among the 24 teams currently competing in the Championship.
