The DR Congo defender has been heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium.

It has already been a dramatic summer at West Ham, and that is set to continue with several key players linked with moves away from the club.

Mateus Fernandes got the ball rolling with a landmark £85million transfer to Tottenham, and he could soon be followed by Crysencio Summerville, who is the subject of interest from Serie A side Roma.

However, there has been some good news as fan favourite Jarrod Bowen has signed a revised contract at the London Stadium, although it contains a release clause should the Hammers fail to achieve promotion next season.

Unsurprisingly, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also a wanted man, and although details of a bid have emerged, it seems the Irons are taking a firm stance on the 28-year-old.

West Ham want £17m for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Relegation to the Championship was always going to mean big sales at the London Stadium as West Ham possess several players with Premier League quality.

Wan-Bissaka is firmly among those as he has vast top-flight experience with Crystal Palace, Manchester United and the Hammers, and now he has World Cup pedigree with DR Congo too.

The right-back has experienced a mixed time with the East London club, although he has demonstrated his last-ditch tackling quality during his two seasons with the club.

Wan-Bissaka made 25 Premier League appearances last term, notching three assists, but regularly featured on the bench at the end of the campaign as Nuno Espírito Santo's side suffered relegation.

Now Claret & Hugh have revealed that the Hammers have rejected a bid of £8.5million from Serie A side Lazio for the defender.

The publication adds that a source has told them that the Irons want £17m for Wan-Bissaka and that they think the bid was insulting given his value.

Why Hammers are right to take Wan-Bissaka stance

West Ham have already done superbly to generate £85m for Fernandes, a player with significant potential, but has been relegated in two successive seasons with Southampton and the Hammers.

The Irons have also reportedly rejected a substantial bid for Summerville, which further shows they will not undervalue their prized assets this summer.

When it comes to Wan-Bissaka, he is a player who has just under a decade of Premier League football under his belt and has played for one of the biggest clubs in world football.

At 28, he is hardly past his peak and selling a player for less than £10m would feel like an insult and would set an unwanted precedent for the Hammers.

An asking price of £17m feels fair, and it will be intriguing to see if any other clubs are tempted to match the fee during the transfer window.
