FLW takes a look at how much Sam Field's contract with QPR is worth per week

Queens Park Rangers allowed 27-year-old midfielder Sam Field to leave the club in January to join Norwich City on loan, with his long-term future at Loftus Road being cast in doubt.

As the 2025/26 season draws to a close, QPR are looking increasingly likely to secure their status in the second tier for next season.

The West London outfit would need an incredible run of form to have any sort of chance of making it into the top six at this stage, whilst 53 points looks to be more than enough to keep them out of any sort of relegation battle.

There will be a tinge of frustration yet again at Loftus Road that the R's weren't able to capitalise on what has been a wide-open division this year, with the play-off battle still hotly contested.

In the January window, Julien Stephan's side signed Ronnie Edwards from Southampton and Justin Obikwu from Coventry City on permanent deals, whilst allowing Michael Frey, Murphy Cooper, Liam Morrison, and, arguably most notably, Sam Field to leave the club.

Field joined Championship rivals Norwich City on loan for the remainder of the season, and has performed admirably since his switch to Carrow Road, though QPR have been warned against a return of the midfielder at the end of the campaign.

Having come through the youth ranks at West Brom and going on to make 45 appearances for the Baggies, Field joined QPR in January 2021 on an initial loan deal, which was made permanent the following summer.

Since then, the Englishman has gone on to play just shy of 200 games across all competitions for the West London outfit, but having seen his game time dwindle this campaign, he was allowed to leave on loan to Norwich.

Football League World's QPR fan pundit, Louis, previously shared their thoughts on whether Field could have made an impact at the club whilst they were going through a poor run of form, saying, "I don't think letting Sam Field go on loan is the biggest of our worries right now. I don't think it would have made a massive difference at all with him going.

"It might sound harsh, but I just don't think he's the sort of player you want in this situation, really, because he's not going to help you to create chances and, realistically, I don't think he would have helped much defensively, because you look at the goals we've conceded; it's been poor at the back.

"Yes, he's versatile and all that, but I think we've moved on from those days of struggling and having Sam Field in the side"

With doubts cast over Field's long-term future at the club, the midfielder could well be on the move this summer.

According to estimates from Capology, Field's contract at QPR sees him earn roughly £7.3k p/w, which he has earned consistently for the last four years since his permanent move to the club.

This firmly puts him among one of the smaller earners at the club, with his wage impact making a small dent in their overall budget, with Steve Cook's reported £30k p/w making him QPR's top earner.

Should he return to QPR next season, his wage impact won't be too drastic, though whether the club plans to keep him around with Nicolas Madsen, Jonathan Varane, Isaac Hayden, and Kieran Morgan ahead of him in the pecking order remains to be seen.

Heading into the next campaign, there remains a degree of uncertainty about what the club may look like.

In what is his first season at the helm at Loftus Road, Stephan has shown glimpses of what a side under his leadership can look like, best exhibited in their recent 6-1 demolition of Portsmouth.

A strong end to the season will mean he almost certainly remains in charge heading into next season, whilst a poor end could mean the opposite.

Madsen and Varane will likely attract interest in the summer, with the latter having been pursued as recently as January, with the R's midfield looking uncertain heading into next year.

Field could well break back into the side next season, though, after four years at the club, it could be time for a fresh start for both parties, as an exit is just as likely.
