After several intense weeks of negotiations, FC Barcelona reached an agreement to renew Frenkie de Jong’s contract for the next three seasons, until 30 June 2029.
Both parties had already started the process of exchanging documents after the player gave his final approval to the contract. In the coming days, the remaining formalities will be completed.
The idea is for the announcement to be made on 15 October, soon after De Jong returns from national team duty with the Netherlands.
According to Que t’hi Jugues (h/t SPORT), De Jong’s new contract will see him pocket a salary of around €12 million gross – putting him at the same level as his midfield partner Pedri.
This is also in line with Dani Olmo’s deal when he signed from Leipzig last summer, as well as the rising salary of Ferran Torres, whose contract runs until 2027, and that of captain and key defender Ronald Araujo.

De Jong’s new contract will be framed within the revised wage structure that Barcelona is applying to recent renewals of its top players.
Setting aside Robert Lewandowski (the highest-paid player in the squad), as well as Raphinha, Lamine Yamal with his progressive renewal, and Ter Stegen (whose extension was signed under different conditions), De Jong will enter the next tier.
The Netherlands international’s current contract sees him earn an inflated salary, due to the adjustments and deferrals from the renewal he signed under the previous regime during the COVID era.
But, Joan Laporta & co. have been working hard to bring the salary scale at Barcelona under control, and De Jong’s new contract will adhere to that, with the midfielder’s new salary expected to be around €12 million per yer gross.
