Oliver Glasner has begun pre-season at Nottingham Forest, and his arrival is set to shape their summer business.

According to NY Times, Forest use a head-coach model and Glasner will have a say in recruitment, with priorities at right-back, centre-back and central midfield largely unchanged. The process is led by global technical director George Syrianos and head of recruitment Pedro Ferreira, with targets discussed before Vitor Pereira’s exit.

Glasner’s preference for a back three heightens the need for another centre-back. Forest have Nikola Milenkovic, Murillo and Morato, with Jair Cunha, Tyler Bindon and Zach Abbott short of top-flight experience.

Forest failed to land Jean-Philippe Mateta in January, and Glasner’s Palace links might aid any renewed approach.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis has final say and favours signing young talent. No overhaul is planned, with three to five quality additions targeted.

Replacing Elliot Anderson is the headline task, with his £116million move to Manchester City bringing a £101million profit. Goalkeepers are needed after Angus Gunn and Stefan Ortega left at contract end.

Forest do not intend to sell other key assets, so Glasner will build around Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo and Neco Williams.

Lucas Bergvall remains first choice to replace Anderson. The 20-year-old wants a new challenge, is under contract at Tottenham Hotspur until 2031, and a deal could be struck, with Roberto De Zerbi not likely to block a sale. Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is not high on Forest’s list.
