At UD Tegueste, coaches praised his football honesty, consistently choosing the pass over solo glory. Club president Eladio Ramos recalls a player defined by vision and fluidity rather than goals, and a family steeped in Barça devotion through his grandfather’s local Peña.

Juan Carlos Torres brought him to Juventud Laguna, courting the family at their restaurant Tasca Fernando. At 12 Pedri insisted on deciding, sealed it with a handshake, and asked for places for his brother Fernando and best friend Dani.

Size doubts faded when he played up an age group. Tenerife overlooked him, Las Palmas signed him. Scout Jonatan Vega highlighted top technique, space-finding, a first touch that set him free, forward intent and control of tempo.

Mainland interest followed. A Real Madrid trial was hit by heavy snow, perhaps keeping him in Gran Canaria longer. Pepe Mel took him into pre-season at 16, team-mates quickly admired him, and he stayed with the first team.

Mel even sounded out Real through Emilio Butragueño, yet Barcelona signed him in summer 2019 for about five million euros, then loaned him back for a season. He excelled in the second tier with Las Palmas before moving to Catalonia.
