Rafiki Said has revealed his delight at securing a move to Wolves from Standard Liege.

Wolves have already made some moves in the transfer window as they look to build a squad that Cesar Peixoto can lead to promotion.

The decision to replace Rob Edwards with the Portuguese coach came as a surprise to some, as whilst the ex-Middlesbrough boss only won three of his 27 Premier League games, there was an understanding that he inherited a very poor squad.

So, even with Peixoto in place, the priority was always going to be making changes to the group, and work has started on that front, with Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez and Rafiki Said having all arrived at Molineux.

In Trippier and Jimenez, Wolves have brought in two players who are proven in English football, so there will be an expectation that the experienced duo will settle quickly.

However, there is more uncertainty surrounding Said, who has joined the club for £7.7m from Standard Liege.

The Comoros international scored eight goals and registered four assists in the Belgian top flight last season from the wing, and it will be intriguing to see how he handles the transition to English football.

Yet, speaking to the club’s media, it’s fair to say that Said is excited by the prospect of pulling on the Old Gold shirt, as he explained why it was an easy decision to join the club.

“I'm very happy to have signed a contract with such a great club like Wolves. I'm really happy to be here. The facilities are incredible, there's plenty to get stuck into and I'm excited at the prospect of starting the season.

“I said yes straight away because it's a really great club and everyone in England knows it. When I found out they were interested in me, I was really pleased and I didn't hesitate to sign here.”

Wolves fans are hoping to see a major overhaul this summer, and they will want to see players who are desperate to play for the club.

Of course, you can’t judge Said until he has settled, but it’s encouraging for supporters to hear this from the attacker, as it does look like a fantastic opportunity for him at this stage of his career.

Having come through at clubs in France, Said has spent the majority of his career in Ligue 2, so the move to Liege was a step up, and it’s the same with the switch to Wolves. Now, the aim will be to reach the Premier League, so Said will be determined to prove his worth, and take this chance to show his talent in England.

From Wolves’ perspective, Said is the profile of player that they have been badly lacking, as his pace, dribbling ability and spark should give them something they have been badly missing in the final third, except for Mateus Mane.

So, he should be ideally suited to the high-pressing, attacking football that Peixoto has said he wants to implement, and fans will be excited to see how he adapts.

It’s also a positive that Wolves have managed to secure this deal early, which has allowed Said to get to know the head coach and his teammates in pre-season, as they count down to their Championship opener against Blackburn on August 14.
