Real Sociedad’s Copa del Rey triumph over Atlético de Madrid has immediately reshaped LaLiga’s European allocation, tightening the run-in. According to Superdeporte, the result has upended calculations for several clubs.
The key shift is that La Real were not yet assured of a Champions League berth via the league, so the Copa winners’ place does not unlock an extra league slot. Had Atlético, already settled near the top, lifted the trophy, more teams would have reached Europe through LaLiga.
The provisional picture hardens. Fifth is in the Europa League, sixth drops to the Conference League, and seventh, barring changes, misses out altogether.
That squeeze adds pressure on sides chasing those positions, including Real Betis, Celta de Vigo and Getafe CF. Their margin for error has narrowed.
The landscape is not closed. Spain remain in contention for an extra Champions League place via UEFA coefficient, which would move fifth into the elite competition and reopen options beneath. That depends on Spanish clubs’ results in Europe and a tight battle with the German league.
