How this season has treated the Blades who left last summer

A summer of change in 2025 saw plenty of new faces arrive at Bramall Lane. Now, during the international break, and after a less than ideal season, let’s look at how those who left the Blades last summer have got on this season.

Anel Ahmedhodzic

Blades just couldn’t seem to get enough of the centre-back when he was at the Lane. At least Anel Ahmedhodzic left United to play in red-and-white. His move to Feyenoord came after three years and over 100 appearances for the Blades. He also tasted promotion and experienced Premier League football in South Yorkshire.

The move to the Netherlands has brought Ahmedhodzic the extra prize of European football. He featured in two matches in the Champions League qualifiers. Unfortunately, Feyenoord were unsuccessful in their qualification campaign. But this has seen him play seven times in the Europa League.

Although not his first time in European competition, given his time at Malmo ahead of becoming a Blade, it’s good to see him have another chance in the elite competitions.

Overall, he has made 36 appearances for Feyenoord. 26 matches in the league as Robin Van Persie’s side aim to keep hold of second place.

Vinicius Souza

The real question for Vini is simple. Is a German boozer better than a Sheffield one?

Souza’s move to Wolfsburg has seen him start in 15 Bundesliga matches. Much like his time at Sheffield United, he hasn’t dominated with goal contributions, and has yet to register one for Wolfsburg.

Daniel Bauer, the Head Coach recently relieved of his duties at Wolfsburg, said of Souza recently:

“Vinnie absolutely did his job. I have a lot of trust in my players. When a player is benched, we talk about it and explain why and what it’s all about. I’ve been praising Vinnie over the last few weeks both privately and publicly. He’s delivered what I expect from a professional. He’s always gone full throttle, he never got negative, and he remained himself in the locker room both personally and athletically.” via Get German Football News.

Souza and new boss Dieter Hecking and the rest of the Wolfsburg squad have a big task ahead. The German side are currently three points from the relegation playoff place and five points from safety. With a relegation to the Bundesliga 2 a real possibility.

Miguel Freckleton

The Blades youngster who went on loan to Wealdstone, Yeovil Town, Chesterfield, and Swindon Town left Bramall Lane in the summer. A permanent move to St Mirren has seen Freckleton flourish in the Scottish Premier League.

The defender has made 37 appearances, his most for any single club in his career so far. He has scored four times and has one assist. His four goals making him the club’s current joint top-scorer.

St Mirren are currently 10th in the Scottish Premier League.

Kieffer Moore

The first of three departures on this list to remain in the Championship. The striker has been reborn in Wales with Wrexham.

His 13 goals in all competitions for the playoff contenders is a prime example of playing to a striker’s strengths. If United had done the same, maybe the Blades would’ve seen Moore of the Kieffer Wrexham are getting now. (Yes I read it too, it’s bad but it’s staying in).

Jack Robinson

The Blades captain departed on deadline day after five-and-a-half years at the club. His switch to Birmingham City has seen him play just 14 league games so far.

Despite his departure from Bramall Lane, at least we got to see one more Jack Robinson yellow card in the recent match between the Blues and the Blades.

Rhian Brewster

After nearly five years at Bramall Lane, Rhian Brewster left in the summer as a free agent. One of the last remaining members of Wilder’s Premier League squads.

His move to Derby County seems to have paid off. Brewster is closer to the playoffs with the Rams than he would be had he stayed. He also has seven goals and two assists in 29 league games, more goals in a single season than he ever managed in South Yorkshire.

Seemingly, putting most of his injury worries aside as well as the looming pressure of his price tag, Brewster is getting back on track in Derbyshire. Long may it continue for the former Blades forward.

Jefferson Caceres

Caceres initially departed Bramall Lane for Scotland moving to Dunfermline. The Peruvian youngster leaving the Blades after one memorable pre-season moment. We’ll always have that opening goal against Chesterfield.

He managed two assists in Scotland in 14 matches. Additionally, picking up a red card against Partick Thistle.

Now he’s back at FBC Melgar where the Blades originally signed him from.

Overview

As is always the case some players have thrived since leaving Bramall Lane. Whilst others are still to find their footing at pastures new. It remains to be seen if any will ever return, being Sheffield United it won’t be long before the rumour mill suggests they will.
