WSL and London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea face off in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

Arsenal are looking to continue the defence of their crown having won the competition last season, while Chelsea are hoping to win their first ever Champions League this season.

What’s been said?

Arsenal boss Renee Slegers: “It’s of course been a very short turnaround from the West Ham game, so we’ve had two full days to prepare. It doesn’t mean that the work hasn’t started earlier, so there’s a lot of work already been done.

“But all the details were set in these two days. I think there is an unpredictability with how Chelsea are going to come out and how they’re going to play this first game at Emirates, what shape they’ll play in, what players they’ll have available.

“So we’ll just have to be ready for all scenarios, that’s the bigger picture, where we have to prepare for scenarios, but on the other hand, that’s also us focusing on ourselves and what we want to bring to the game regardless.”

Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor after only eight players took part in training ahead of the game: “When you are playing a lot of games and having quick turnarounds, a lot of players are doing individual programmes,” she said. “So everything is under control and we will have enough players to play the game tomorrow. Don’t worry.

“I’m not concerned. I think as a staff, our job is to make sure we prepare the players in the best way possible for them to come into every game. I think we have enough experience in the staff and myself to understand where they are and what is the best preparation for them going into the next game.

“We had two full days to prepare them, and I think we just did what we had to do with them to be prepared for the game.”
