The Canadians are hoping to progress further than they did in 2022 in Qatar, when they were knocked out in the group stages.

Jesse Marsch is the man tasked with giving Canadians a tournament to remember on home soil, starting with a huge clash against Edin Dzeko and Bosnia.

Injuries and suspensions

Canada will be without main man Alphonso Davies through injury in a big blow for Marsch and his side, but the Canada boss hopes he will be back to play a part later in the tournament.

Canada’s last friendly before the World Cup saw them draw 1-1 with Ireland, which followed a 2-0 win over Uzbekistan.

Bosnia drew their two warm-up friendlies, against North Macedonia and then Panama.

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch: “If I think back to different experiences, whether it’s when I was an assistant at the World Cup, when it was Champions League, Premier League, Bundesliga, or Copa America here, my focus and attention is always on the players and giving them the best opportunity to go out and be free, know their roles, and be themselves. We’ve accomplished that here over and over again.”

Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko: “I did not think I would be playing at 40. But I am listening to my body and doing a lot of work before and after training because I am obviously not the youngest anymore and I need to care about my legs, my body and that’s what I’m doing.”
