The 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway this evening in what is set to be the biggest edition in the tournament’s history, featuring at least 104 televised matches spread across five weeks.
The 20th World Cup will be staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada, who are jointly hosting the tournament welcoming 48 teams to take part – expanded from the usual 32 nations by adding a further 16 sides.
The change in January, introduced in the latest cycle, has added 16 more teams to the competition, giving more countries the opportunity to showcase their talent on football’s biggest stage.
Goal difference could become more important to teams’ tournaments than ever before, since despite there being more third-place sides going through to the knockouts one win might not be enough based on historical results.
As matches are staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada, viewers based in the UK will also need to factor in the time difference, with some games kicking off as late as 3am and as early as 5am (BST).
The fixtures this week will be split between the BBC and ITV, with 19 matches selected for BBC coverage and a further 20 shown live on ITV. Here is FromTheSpot’s guide on how to watch all matches up until Sunday 21st of June for UK viewers.
