Chelsea take on Lincoln in the third round of the Carabao Cup tonight as the Blues seek to end a three-match winless streak.
Enzo Maresca’s men come into the tie having suffered back-to-back losses, falling to Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener before an early Robert Sanchez red card helped condemn them to another defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday.
With an end-to-end draw against Brentford preceding those results, this domestic cup outing will therefore be seen as a prime opportunity to secure the club’s first victory of the month.
There is, however, a chance Chelsea will be without star player Cole Palmer as the England forward continues to nurse a groin injury that has hampered him all season.
Usual No1 goalkeeper Sanchez is also unavailable, while Palmer’s possible absence could give the likes of Alejandro Garnacho or Jamie Gittens a chance to shine.
A visit by the reigning Club World Cup champions presents a big test for League One side Lincoln, but the hosts are currently enjoying a 10-game unbeaten run going into Tuesday’s match.
The Imps have lost just once in all competitions this season, beating Harrogate 3-1 and Burton Albion 1-0 to reach the third round of the league cup.
That form will give Michael Skubala’s team plenty of confidence that they can become the latest lower-division side to down a Premier League giant this year when the two clubs face off at the LNER Stadium.
TV channel: The game will be televised live on Sky Sports Football for UK viewers, with coverage beginning at 7:40pm BST ahead of a 7:45pm kick-off.
Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers can catch the contest live online, via the Sky Go app.
