New York City FC ended the three-game winless streak when the Boys in Blue had a superb win against Westchester SC in the U.S. Open Cup. Yet, they still have to end the streak in Major League Soccer. As such, the team will have a chance to do so when they host Charlotte FC this weekend. It will be a close matchup based on the standings, for NYCFC sits in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, and Charlotte is in fifth.
Both teams have a 3-2-2 record and 11 points, which is somewhat funny. They were close in the standings back in 2025, which led to them to face off in the first round of the postseason. The difference was that the Bronx side was in fifth and had a tough task with the Queen City having the home field advantage in the Best-of-3 series. But, NYCFC won thanks to two road wins at Bank of America Stadium.
Since this will be a close game, and since the Boys in Blue have kind of fizzled out from their hot start to the season, this is a vital game. They need to earn all three points at home and stave off a Charlotte side that is likely out for revenge. Hopefully, the win from the Open Cup will light a spark and lead to a positive result. It does not need to be a perfect performance; it just has to end in a win.
Look at NYCFC’s match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. That was a solid performance that ended in a loss. What matters is scoring goals, which is why Pascal Jansen might want to consider starting Talles Magno over Hannes Wolf. The Brazilian had a hat-trick against Westchester and is likely riding a confidence wave. It would not hurt to see how he will do with a start in MLS.

Fans should remember that there is less parking at Citi Field due to construction, so they should ensure they have enough time to drive. In addition, the 7 train has planned service changes. Hence, NYCFC fans traveling that route must be aware of the changes and adjust travel plans as needed.
