Team news

Star man Christian Pulisic is an injury worry for boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Australia should have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Predicted line-ups

USA (4-3-3): Freese; Freeman, Richards, Ream, Robinson; Adams, Tillman, McKennie; Dest, Balogun, Weah

Australia (3-4-3): Beach; Circati, Souttar, Burgess; Italiano, O’Neill, Okon-Engstler, Bos; Metcalfe, Irankunda; Toure

Recent form

The USA will be hugely buoyed by their opening 4-1 victory over Paraguay. It feels as the though the entire country is beginning to get behind them and they are emerging as early dark horses.

Australia were mightily impressive against Turkey in their first game, upsetting the odds to win 2-0. No one really gave them a chance, and their form pre-tournament was poor. But now manager Tony Popovic and his players will believe they can make the knockouts.

What’s been said?

USA boss Mauricio Pochettino: “They [Australia] are a very strong team, really believing in what they are doing,” Pochettino said. It’s the mentality, the mindset and the belief.

“The most important thing is how we need to match their aggressiveness and that mentality, mindset that makes them very dangerous.”

Australia manager Tony Popovic: “[Since] we started this journey together we’ve seen the evolution of the team, the growth of the team.

“And we’ll need that again tomorrow because it’s a wonderful opportunity. We know that we will need to be better than we were against Turkey to get the result we want.”
